Review: Bryton Rider S500
Bryton’s brand new GPS head unit just came out and i had the opportunity to test it out in the last couple of months before the release.
If the Rider 750 is, undoubtedly, an excellent device, the S500 has raised the level even further.
In the unboxing, the first impression was that it was just a slightly smaller Rider 750. The hardware is similar, in the same material and finishing, with four side buttons and so, at first glance, the only difference was the dimensions. But as soon as we start operating the S500, we see that it is different, and for the better!
The main features:
. 2.4″ color touchscreen
. USB Type-C charging
. Up to 30h battery life
. Regional maps preloaded & global maps free to install
. Full navigation features & voice input navigation
. Advanced workouts functions
. Climb challenge
As soon as we started operating the device, we noticed that the touchscreen responsiveness is really good, with the brightness automatically adjusting to the ambient light conditions.
Like the Rider 750, it is very easy to configure through the Bryton’s Active app. You can configure 9 different pages, with up to 10 different data fields.
Synchronization with sensors is very easy and fast, with no problems so far.
Routes are synched from 3rd party apps like Strava, Komoot or RideWithGPS.
The new Climb Challenge feature is excellent, providing an overview of the upcomimg climb sections during the course, God, how i love this new feature!
In the Active app, we have at our disposal a lot of metrics and graphs to analyze our activities. Furthermore, all activities are automatically uploaded to Strava, TrainingPeaks and other similar apps. TrainingPeaks scheduled workouts can also be synched to the device.
It has visual and sound alerts for phone calls, SMS, emails and messages from other apps.
The new Live Tracking feature is also available in the Rider S500.
Claimed battery life is up to 30 hours, wich is really good.
The S500 is a very complete equipment, whether for recreational, competitive or even for pro ciclists.
